OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2012. Anhui's consumer price index (CPI), the main gauge of inflation, rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in September, weakening from August's 1.7 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)said.

The carryover effect, which measures the impact of last year's prices on year-on-year changes in this year's prices, moderated in September and contributed only 0.1 percentage points to Sept's CPI growth.

Food prices, which account for nearly one third of the basket of goods in China's CPI calculation, moved up 1.4 percent in Sept from a year earlier, driving up inflation by 0.4 percentage points, according to the NBS.

The price of pork, however, fell 21.6 percent year-on-year in Sept, pushing down the CPI by 0.85 percentage points.

During the same period, the cost of entertainment and education, clothing and tobacco and alcohol rose 3.1 percent, 3 percent and 2.1 percent year-on-year, marking the highest growth rates in non-food categories.

On a monthly basis, the province's CPI increased 0.7 percent in Sept, with food prices up 0.9 percent and non-food prices up 0.5 percent.
