October 22, 2012.  At a 220 mІ booth in Hall B, Bosch will present its latest system solutions and products for greater traffic safety at the World Congress for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Vienna this year. This includes new developments and vehicle functions from the fast-paced fields of safety technology, fleet management, driver assistance and infotainment as well as the presentation of a number of different research projects and field trials in which Bosch is involved, with intelligent communication between vehicles and infrastructure (Car-to-X) as one example.

Intelligent connectivity is the basis for a wide variety of different services
Commercial vehicle functions, such as fleet management or permanent vehicle status monitoring, are based today on the connectivity of vehicle systems with external IT systems. They make the driver workplace more efficient, safer and more comfortable. In Vienna, Bosch will showcase a broad array of innovative end devices and modules for flexible installation and different applications, including new Connectivity&Control units that recognize the technical condition of individual vehicles and their usage profiles and continuously record operating data. In addition, upon customer request, the Bosch connectivity hardware can also be equipped with the corresponding application software from Bosch Engineering GmbH. This Bosch subsidiary develops complete systems for its customers to generate, collect and transmit data in the vehicle and to evaluate this data on external servers.

Navigation applications for the iPhone
Bosch SoftTec GmbH presents a variety of different solutions in the field of automotive software, connected services and smartphone applications, such as the latest update of the Bosch navigation app. Among other things, it offers a 3D artMap, a curve warning assistant, a logbook and traffic congestion information along with an Eco Trainer, which gives the driver feedback on his or her personal driving style. Another highlight in the Bosch navigation app is “flinc”, the integrated ride-sharing service, a smart way to save, find passengers and share fuel costs. Ride-sharing is also environmentally friendly.

Bosch reduces commercial vehicle fuel consumption
Another Bosch highlight at the ITS World Congress relates to sustainable fuel reductions for commercial vehicles: Eco.Logic motion – this is a new type of assistance system from Bosch, whereby the focus is on optimized engine and transmission control on the basis of such expanded navigation data as up-/downhill stretches and curve radii. Smart algorithms ensure that fuel consumption as well as CO2 emissions are reduced.

eCall service from Bosch sends life-saving help to the accident scene
At the ITS 2012 in Vienna, the Bosch division for Security Technology presents innovative ways to give special priority to contemporary safety requirements, including an automatic emergency call system as well as a concept for “safe truck parking”.

 Bosch has already offered an eCall service for Mercedes-Benz vehicles since this summer. Along with the emergency call, the vehicle transmits such accident-relevant data as the location, time and driving direction to the Bosch Safety Centers. A voice connection is established with the accident vehicle and at the same time, the nearest police and rescue services are located. If no voice connection is possible because of the nature of the accident, the Bosch associate will inform the rescue authorities directly. What makes this solution so special: the multi-lingual agents in the Bosch Communication Center are able to communicate with the accident victims in their native language and with the local authorities in the respective local language. This means that a German driver who has had an accident in Spain can inform the central office directly about important accident details and the people involved without requiring any knowledge of the local language. The automatic emergency call service is already currently available in nine countries; next year, 19 other countries will be added.

Safe truck parking thanks to video surveillance
In its guidelines, the European Union focuses specifically on the development of intelligent transport systems for the safety of truck parking positions. Dangerous conditions on truck parking lots endanger not only the truck driver and the freight, but can be a safety risk for all road users. That's why Bosch develops an overall concept for “intelligent and safe truck parking” to improve safety and danger defense all along the logistics chain across Europe. It consists of a log-in system for the truck driver and the technical equipment at parking areas with the corresponding safety components required.

 To book a parking space, the truck driver can use a smartphone or call the service number for a central office. Based on the information available for the vehicle position, the route and the traffic conditions, the truck driver is provided with a parking spot and it's guaranteed to be available. The assigned parking spaces are remote-monitored by means of intelligent video analysis. In this way, it is possible to identify any dangers, damages or thefts in real time and the drivers can take advantage of their rest time more effectively. As a result, this system serves to prevent attacks on trucks and increases safety in road traffic overall.

 In Vienna, Bosch will show how intelligently connected systems and services can make the driver workplace and the transport business in general more efficient and safer than ever before.
