OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2012. The Meridian spacecraft, designed and manufactured by Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems, was successfully delivered into orbit on November 14, 2012.

The satellite was launched aboard a middle-class Soyuz-2.1a/Fregat booster from the Plesetsk cosmodrome. Separation of Meridian from the upper stage completed nominally and the satellite was placed into its designated orbital slot.

The Meridian satellite is controlled from the Titov space assets test and control center with the support of ISS-Reshetnev’s Information Computation Center. Specialists receive and process telemetry data from the satellite.

Meridian is intended to carry out its mission in the interest of the RF Ministry of defense. It will provide communications between sea vessels, aircraft and coastal stations.
