OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2012.   The first 375 MW hydropower unit of a new HPP – La Yesca – is put into operation in Mexico. The equipment for this unit was manufactured and supplied by the Russian company Power Machines OJSC. The warranty period for the equipment supplied is 24 months from the beginning of its operation.

In the project to build La Yesca HPP Power Machines act as a subcontractor of the Mexican construction company CPH – a subsidiary of the largest construction company ICA, which won the tender held by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission in 2007.

In accordance with the terms of the contract concluded in 2007, Power Machines supplied two hydro turbines with a capacity of 375 MW each, two hydro generators as well as auxiliary equipment for the new hydropower plant and performed turn-key design and installation of the turbine hall’s electromechanical equipment.

Power Machines completed the manufacture and supply of the main equipment for two hydropower units in 2010. At present the company continues commissioning works on the second hydropower unit at the plant’s site. The unit’s startup is scheduled for November 2012.

La Yesca HPP is a unique hydraulic structure having the world’s highest concrete-faced earthfill dam. Its height reaches 220 meters. The plant’s total rated capacity after the startup of the second hydropower unit will amount to 750 MW. The new plant forms part of the hydraulic power system on the Rнo Grande de Santiago River at the border of Jalisco and Nayarit states. The main power equipment for two previously built plants of this power system – 975 MW Aguamilpa HPP and 750 MW El Cajon HPP – was also supplied by Power Machines.
