OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2012. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always focused on the importance of environment conservation. In another such initiative, the company implemented a rainwater harvesting practice at Ghorabanda, Jamshedpur.

Under this initiative, the company has created a rainwater harvesting structure. This structure will recharge a dry well and a hand pump at a local anganwadi centre called Lakhan Singh Anganwadi Centre. The rainwater harvesting will capture surface runoff water from an area of around 1,600 square metre and will harvest rooftop water from 400 square feet. This system will cater to the needs of the geographically excluded tribal settlement which houses around 300 people.

Speaking on the occasion, DS Kudalkar, head, Jojobera station, said, “Conserving environment and augmenting social infrastructure is one of the themes for Tata Power’s CSR efforts. It’s heartening to note that this initiative will go a long way in helping the drinking water crisis in the region.” The scarcity of water in this region during the summer season caused distress for the children in the age bracket of 3-6 years, resulting in low attendance. The recharge pump will also ensure water to local households.
