OREANDA-NEWS. December 03, 2012. In the future, energy-intensive manufacturing companies will have to concern themselves more closely with energy management and greater energy efficiency than they have up to now. The upper and lower houses of the German parliament recently passed an amendment to the Electricity and Energy Tax Act. This law obliges companies to make greater efforts to improve their energy efficiency. Effective January 1, 2013, section 10 of the Electricity Tax Act (StromStG) stipulates that large companies employing more than 250 people ore generating annual sales of more than 50 million euros will only qualify for tax relief if they can show they have started to introduce an energy management system (EnMS) or EU eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) by the end of 2013.
