OREANDA-NEWS. December 21, 2012. At Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, safety is of paramount importance and a condition for employment. The company considers safety as a core value over which no business objective can have a higher priority.

In line with this philosophy, Tata Power's Jojobera power station organised a training programme on safety for two-wheeler driving for the community members of Govindpur, Gadara, Supudera and Bahragoda on November 30 and December 1, 2012. A second session was organised for employees and partners of Power House No 6 and Jojobera power plant.

In India, every year more than 1,45,000 people die due to road accidents. In Jamshedpur alone, more than 300 fatal road accidents occur every year. Poor road safety awareness, unsafe behaviour and poor compliance to PPEs are some of the causes of these accidents. Two-wheeler drivers are the biggest victims of these accidents. To address this issue, Tata Power collaborated with Indo-Austrian joint venture HEIPL, and decided to arrange regular programmes for the youth of the community and its employees.

As a part of this two day session, more than 100 participants attended the programme and got tips on how to drive two-wheelers safely.

Speaking on the event, DS Kudalkar, head, Jojobera power station, said, “Our involvement in this exercise reiterates our commitment towards safety of all our stakeholders, be it inside our premises or outside the plant. We expect the participants to share the knowledge gained at the session and implement it while driving.”
