OREANDA-NEWS. December 21, 2012. Tata Power Solar, a 100 percent subsidiary of Tata Power, is enabling major cities across the country achieve self-sufficiency in energy in order to become greener. The company today announced the commissioning of first of the two 1 KW solar PV plants to power the porta cabin centres of residents welfare associations across New Delhi.

Projects across the globe are increasingly becoming environmentally friendly and availing of the benefits of solar energy. Tata Power Solar is at the forefront of implementing such efforts and spreading significant awareness in India. These porta cabin centres constitute the first set in a series of 12 1 KW solar PV plants that are being constructed under the 'My Delhi I Care' initiative.

Tata Power Solar has been able to generate more than 1.60 MW of energy from solar sources in New Delhi alone.

Delhi is among the ten most polluted cities in the world and Tata Power Solar accepted the challenge to bring clean energy to the nation’s capital. Solar power can not only help ease the burden of massive demand for energy in the capital city of India but reduce the total cost of generating the electricity. The successful implementation of the porta cabin centres in parks or areas which have no direct access to electricity will demonstrate these benefits to the residents. Residents, including children, who have easy access to these centres will help gain an insight into how solar power produces clean, green energy in a city and inspires them to go the solar route.

“We believe in making solar energy accessible and affordable to everyone, especially those who do not have access to basic electricity. With these plants, Tata Power Solar proves that it is all set to enable this sustainable transformation in India’s capital and in many other cities going forward,” says Ajay Goel, CEO, Tata Power Solar.
