OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2013. For the third year in a row, PotashCorp has donated USD 150,000 to the University of Saskatchewan’s Huskie Athletics.

The funds will be used to supplement team budgets for each of the 15 Huskie Athletics teams, as well as allow for support of student-athletes in the Huskie Sport Health Centre.

“Huskie Athletics is very grateful once again for this contribution from PotashCorp,” said Basil Hughton, Huskies’ Athletic Director. “The generosity shown over the years has truly been tremendous and appreciated. Each season the costs associated with running elite CIS teams, like those we have at the University of Saskatchewan, rises. Contributions from local corporations help our programs recruit and retain the best and brightest student-athletes. Our accomplishments in sport, in the classroom and in the community could not happen without PotashCorp’s support.”

PotashCorp believes in building strong communities, and supporting student-athletes is an excellent way to achieve that goal.

“We are proud to support our hometown Huskies and athletic programming at the U of S,” said Denita Stann, Vice-President of Investor and Public Relations at PotashCorp. “These programs, which are used by the general public as well as students, teach important lessons outside the classroom about leadership, commitment and teamwork – the same values that drive our company and our people everyday.”

PotashCorp has been a major contributor to the University of Saskatchewan, having donated more than USD 11 million dollars.  In 1998 the company donated USD 5 million to create the PotashCorp Centre at the Edwards School of Business. PotashCorp gave another USD 5 million to the University in 2005 for upgrades to Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park, site of the 2006 Vanier Cup.
