OREANDA-NEWS. February 08, 2013. In line with standard practice of IMF, the IMF Mission in Moldova does not to comment on unofficial documents and has not expressed its opinion about the abovementioned report, IMF Permanent Representative in Moldova Tokhir Mirzoev briefed to the press.

When asked about the situation at Banca de Economii, Tokhir Mirzoev re-iterated a standpoint of the IMF mission that visited Chisinau for prompt action to increase the bank profitability, sell foreclosed collateral, and collect overdue loans as well as to strengthen the bank’s capital position with the active involvement of the Financial Stability Committee and other state institutions.

It should be noted that an IMF’s report on the situation at Banca de Economii which has recently leaked into the press states that the situation may be improved in two possible ways: either by recapitalizing the bank or by revoking the license and establishing a mediator bank temporary controlled by the state so as to transit it later to private ownership and control.
