OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2013. The town of Kaliningrad hosted an international conference "Ports and Environment (EU/ Russia)".

Among the participants of the conference were representatives of the leading seaport of EU and Russia, Kaliningrad Region authorities, employees of the Kaliningrad port industry enterprises, research and project organizations, and supervisories, overall almost 60 people from 16 Russian and 11 European organisations, among which were the employees of FSUE "Rosmorport".

Chief expert on environmental protection of the Kaliningrad Department of FSUE "Rosmorport" North-West Basin Branch Ilya Sidlo made a report on the topic "Dredging experiences and challenges at Kaliningrad Ports / Sea channel".

A wide range of issues concerning ecological aspects of the port industry in EU and Russia was discussed at the conference, including creation of sea dumps, operation of the aggradation stations, usage of energy saving technologies, organization of coastal power supply for vessels, usage of liquid gas as marine fuel. In particular, the participants discussed the option of transferring the sea dump of Kaliningrad Seaport to the southern mall in order to prevent degradation of the Vistula Split.

The participants of the conference pointed out the importance and necessity of implementation of modern environmental-friendly technologies into the seaport industry, and the possibility to use the European experience for implementation of new projects in Russia.
