OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2013. Qatar Petroleum’s Industrial Cities Directorate in collaboration with several QP joint ventures and subsidiaries recently celebrated National Sport Day 2013 with a wide range of activities that attracted over 7,000 participants, reported the press-centre of QP.

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, took part in the festivities, as he toured the Mesaieed Industrial City Sports Complex along with Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Mohd Al-Muftah, Director of Industrial Cities, and other senior QP officials.

“I would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of this year’s National Sports Day celebration, namely the organizing team, volunteers, the security and safety personnel, the Qatar Olympic Committee, all QP Industrial Cities departments, and the company employees and their families who responded to our invitation to take part in the activities. This event was a welcome opportunity for all employees and laborers from both Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City to gather together for a day of entertaining activities at the superb facilities of Mesaieed,” said Mr. Al-Muftah.

“We particularly appreciate the collaboration of all QP subsidiaries based in both industrial cities which joined efforts with us to make that special day’s experience as varied and rich as possible. This is consistent with the Industrial Cities Directorate’s vision of providing unique thriving spaces where various, complementary and connected activities work together towards the common goal of a sustainable, diversified and healthy Qatari economy and society,” he added.

The sports events on February 12 started with a mini-marathon, which was then followed by competitions in cricket, basketball, football, rugby and hockey at the MIC Sports Complex. A golf tournament was also held at the Mesaieed Golf Club, while the Al Shaheen Club hosted competitions in volleyball as well as tennis and badminton for ladies only. A Badminton Challenge was also held at Mesaieed International School, and the Community Park featured many attractions for children, including henna tattoo, face painting and an inflatable castle.

All the participants received complimentary gifts such as t-shirts, caps, sweaters and footballs. On the other hand, the winners of the various sports competitions were awarded with trophies, medals and gifts.

The National Sport Day events at MIC were organized by QP’s Industrial Cities Directorate in partnership with QP’s Gas Operations Department, QP Refinery, Qatar Steel, Gasal, Qatar Fuel (WOQOD), Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC), Qatar Aluminium (Qatalum), Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) as well as Doha Bank.

A special media campaign was conducted before the event to raise awareness about the National Sport Day activities in Mesaieed, and this was followed by another campaign after the event to thank all participating employees, departments and companies.
