Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, in line with its philosophy of superior customer care, has launched a unique programme called, 'wiremen training programme’ for its residential customers in Mumbai. The programme facilitates the training of wiremen (electricians) and provides specialised training on the various aspects that a wireman has to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

Customers in the city have always sought reliable and well-trained electricians to service their regular housing needs. The 'wiremen training programme' has been launched to cater to this particular need and ensure consumers receive the right quality of services from trusted personnel.

The objectives of this training programme is to enhance the electrician's competencies in areas such as:

Knowledge improvement about safety procedures while carrying out electrical jobs.

Skill levels in wiring, cable terminations, installation of LT equipment like switch boards, light fittings, etc.

Knowledge about protection systems used in LT circuits, fault finding and control circuits.

Knowledge improvement on material used for electrical installations like power cables, earthing system, switches and switch gears like fuses, MCBs, ELCBs, etc.

Knowledge about relevant electrical codes.

Knowledge about latest electrical gadgets and equipment.

Speaking about the programme, S Padmanabhan, executive director, operations, Tata Power, said, “There are many tasks associated with the wireman and Tata Power’s endeavour is to ensure that the local trustworthy wireman indeed lives up to this expectation. The training programme not just equips the wireman with skills needed for his day-to-day operations but also enhances his awareness and preparedness for emergencies. This in turn would help ensure our customers a safe and hazard-free environment at their residences too.”

The programme has been well received by a number of residential complexes and other housing societies. One hundred and twenty wiremen have been trained so far. Many beneficiaries have complimented Tata Power for initiating this programme and have urged the company to continue conducting more such initiatives in the future.
