OREANDA-NEWS.  In 2012, proceeds from sale of non-nuclear products, works and services by ROSATOM’s Fuel Company TVEL totaled 15 billion 877 million rubles (vs. 13 billion 898 million rubles in 2011). Such positive growth dynamics is connected with an active development of innovative non-nuclear businesses.

In 2012, within the activities implemented with a view to develop chemical production facilities at Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (JSC NCCP), a patent was obtained for a method of production of a nanometer composite cathode material under the Cathode Material Project, and the cathode material synthesis technology was mastered in accordance with the requirements of LLC Liotech (project company of RUSNANO OJSC), and pilot batches of material were produced.

The Cathode Materials Project is implemented by NCCP jointly with Industrial Innovations CJSC and Rusnano OJSC. The project is aimed at the development of import-substituting production of a cathode material based on lithium iron phosphate to manufacture lithium-ion batteries with an annual output of 3,500 tons of product by 2015.

In 2012, the concept for the creation of an industrial metallurgy center (IMC) within OJSC Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (CMP) was developed and approved. The IMC Project includes production of various alloys for enterprises in nuclear, aviation, defense and ship-building industries. In particular, cold stranding acceptance tests were completed for a batch of ribbed titanium pipes with spiral ribs by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Central Research Institute of Structural Materials PROMETEY. The first batch of titanium rods (500 kg) was manufactured under a contract with ValMetEngineering (India).

Within the IMC Project, TMZ developed a technical project and work design documentation for a pilot plant able to manufacture 3 tons of zirconium dioxide granulate per year, and also made contracts for supply and installation of equipment, most of which was supplied in 2012. Granulated zirconium dioxide, stabilized with scandium, is used for manufacturing components of solid oxide fuel cells, and technical ceramics products for various purposes.

Within the first practical stage of the project for launching production of rare earth elements, a pilot plant for separation of collective rare earth concentrate was commissioned, and samples of neodymium oxide were obtained. Products can be used in metallurgy or chemical industry, as well as for manufacturing magnets for various purposes.

In 2012, Zavod Elektrokhimicheskikh Preobrazovateley (LLC ZEP, a subsidiary of OJSC Uralsky Electrokhimichesky Kombinat) developed a technical offer for a sample of an autonomous power supply based on solid oxide fuel cells, and also manufactured and tested components for electrochemical generators based on solid oxide fuel cells; operating in cogeneration mode, such plants can yield efficiency of up to 80-85% vs. traditional generators.

Within the Superconducting Materials Project (SPM), TMZ manufactured two qualification batches (3,000 kg in total) of a superconducting wire for MRT scanners. SPM makes it possible to use TMZ’s existing high-tech potential for new domestic science-intensive projects in such fields as medicine, space, electric energy, exploration, water, air and railway transport.

Joint manufacture of electric and heat power meters was launched at the facilities of OJSC VPO Tochmash with a view to develop the machine building industry.

To develop non-nuclear manufacture facilities and ensure efficient use of free manufacturing spaces, OJSC VPO Tochmash, supported by the Government of Vladimir Region, has been implementing a project for creating an Industrial Park since 2010. Currently, the industrial site of Tochmash accommodates more than 30 residents that occupy approximately 60 thousand square meters of space. Residents also include 4 subsidiaries: LLC Tochmash-Avto (manufacturing components for the leading car manufacturers), LLC Stankomash (manufacturing machines and equipment), LLC PF Pioneer (manufacturing tools, press forms, dies), LLC Promparkservice (lease of spaces, repair and maintenance of enterprises’ infrastructure).

In 2012, a concept was developed to create a similar Industrial Park in Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk Region.
