The participants of the talk reviewed Moldovan-Romanian relations and discussed joint projects on construction of high-voltage lines Iasi-Ungheni, Gotesti-Falciu and Balti-Suceava and construction of gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni. The participants of the talk reviewed Moldovan-Romanian relations and discussed joint projects on construction of high-voltage lines Iasi-Ungheni, Gotesti-Falciu and Balti-Suceava and construction of gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni. Vladimir Filat and Victor Ponta noted the construction of gas pipeline Ungeni- Iasi is going to start in the nearest future. Earlier Energy Minister of Romania Constantin Nita decalred that works for construction of the main pipeline Iasi-Ungheni would start in May and be completed till the end of 2013.

He said connection of gas and power transportation systems of Romania and Moldova with the systems of neighbouring states is a key component to ensure energy safety at the regional level. As it was said earlier, Moldova and Romania are going to construct the main gas pipeline Ungheni-Iasi by the end of 2013. It will provide connection of national gas transporting systems of Moldova and Romania.. A total length of the gas pipeline will make 43.2 km.

The Moldovan segment will be 10.4 km. long. The construction is assessed at 19 mln. euros. To lay the Moldovan segment of the pipeline is expected to come to 7 mln. euros of which 3 mln. euros will be allotted by the EU in the framework of the joint Romania-Ukraine-Moldova program. Some funds will be granted by Romania.

The project is to be implemented by Moldelectrica (Moldova) and Transelectrica (Romania). The transporting capacity of the gas pipeline Ungheni-Iasi will make 1.5 bln c.m. a year.
