OREANDA-NEWS. OJSC Belaruskali has acquired 30% of the Klaipeda terminal BKT for USD 30 million, Belarus Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters. “Belaruskali has acquired a 30% stake in the dry bulk terminal. This is a very big terminal. I believe that this USD 30 million is a good investment,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. Thus, a 30% stake in the terminal is now owned by OJSC Belaruskali, he explained. Belarus invests in the economy of Lithuania.

Biriu Kroviniu Terminalas (BKT) was established in 1997 as a terminal for bulk cargoes, primarily mineral fertilizers.

Last year Belarusian investment in Lithuania exceeded €70 million. “This year we have already invested USD 30 million in the Klaipeda port. This is Belarus’ first investment in the port. Now we are mulling over an equity participation in the port for Grodno Azot. Thus, we will have a good investment portfolio here,” the Premier noted.

The Belarusian PM stated that, being a transit country, Belarus has been implementing quite an ambitious logistics program to manage commodity flows. Thus, Belarus will concentrate the flows of cargo, including in Klaipeda. “This is possible, first of all, due to the geography and a well-coordinated work of our rail companies,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. Today every third tonne shipped in Klaipeda is Belarusian cargo. There is a huge potential to increase these numbers, the Belarusian Premier believes.
