OREANDA-NEWS. Only 4.6% of Ukrainians support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, another 16% tolerate civil marriage of same-sex couples. More than half of the respondents, who do not support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, consider such relationships immoral and wicked. 57.3% of Ukrainians would not let men who have sex with other men in Ukraine; 55.8% would not let women who have sex with other women. It is proved by the data of the survey conducted by GfK Ukraine.

The majority of Ukrainians do not support legal recognition of same-sex marriage in Ukraine. 79.4% of the respondents aged 16 and over answered that they were against any same-sex relationships. 16% of those asked do not support such marriage, though they consider that same-sex people have the right of civil marriage. Only 4.6% of Ukrainians support legal recognition of same-sex marriage.

59% of the respondents, who do not support legal recognition of same-sex marriage, consider such relationships immoral and wicked. Almost 46% do not want same-sex couples to set a bad example for children. According to 40% of the respondents, this is against religious or church regulations. Almost a quarter of them do not support such marriage because when marriage is legitimised, same-sex couples will wish to adopt children, and they oppose it.

When assessing their attitude to same-sex relationship, more than half of respondents said they would not let both men having sex with men and women having sex with women in Ukraine.

The most tolerant of same-sex marriage are the respondents under the age of 29, residing in Kyiv and big cities, the least tolerant are the respondents over 60 years of age, who reside in the Western region and villages. Women aged up to 29 are more tolerant than men from this age category are. Other age categories do not show any differences between men and women. The university-educated respondents are more often supportive of the right of same-sex people to live in a civil marriage.
