OREANDA-NEWS. June 28, 2013. The 69th plenary session of Group of Thirty (G30) was held in Shanghai, China. The 25 members of G30, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees Jacob Frenkel, the Chairman of G30 Jean Claude Trichet (the former president of the European Central Bank), PBC Governor Zhou Xiaochuan, and 15 invited guests attended the meeting.

Founded in 1978, G30, with members who are very senior representatives of the private and public sectors and academia in the international financial sector, discusses major economic and financial issues, including the formulation of international rules, decisions made by international financial institutions and country authorities, and etc, to enhance exchange and reach consensus among members. Currently, G30 has 31 members. Governor Zhou Xiaochuan became a member in 2005.

The Group’s members meet in plenary sessions twice a year. The spring plenary session is convened outside USA in May or June, hosted by the Ministry of Finance or the Central Bank of member states. The autumn plenary session is hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in the beginning of December.

During this plenary session, participants discussed international economic and financial situations, international financial regulatory reform, Basel ? Capital Accord, and etc. Vice Mayor Tu Guangshao of Shanghai, the PBC Deputy Governor Hu Xiaolian, the Vice Chairman Wang Zhaoxing of China Banking Regulatory Commission, Director Fang Xinghai of Shanghai Financial Service Office, Chief Economist Xiang Songzha of the Agricultural Bank of China, and etc as invited guests attended the meeting.
