OREANDA-NEWS. July 02, 2013. The European Investment Bank (EIB) will support the Moldovan roads’ restoration. An agreement, providing for a 150-million-euro loan offered by the EIB, was signed by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and EIB’s Deputy Head Wilhelm Molterer in Luxembourg today, the government’s communication and media relations has reported.

According to the agreement, the financial means will be directed to carrying out restoration works of the roads on the trans-European segments crossing Moldova, namely the South-Western segment of Chisinau band, for completing the Porumbeni-Cimislia connecting road segment and a detour road in Comrat.

During the meeting, Leanca stressed Moldova’s objectives, including job creation, by ensuring a beneficent investment climate, fighting against corruption and continuing the positive developments in the dialogue with the EU. Leanca underlined that these were the Moldovan government’s priorities for the first 100 days.

Molterer said that the institution he represented was aware of the challenges, which the Moldovan government was passing through and he was ready to back Moldova. He also said that Moldova was appreciated as a professional partner and a leader in the region as regards the promotion of reforms necessary for the development of the business environment.

The officials also approached the actions, which should be carried out by Moldova by the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Summit, due in Vilnius in November.

As many as 9 investment projects, amounting to 282 million euros, have been launched in Moldova during the six-year-long cooperation with the EIB. They are related to such fields as: road infrastructure, winemaking, renovation of public transport in Chisinau, rehabilitation of drinking water supply and of sewerage systems from several Moldovan cities, as well as to providing credits to medium- and small-sized enterprises.
