OREANDA-NEWS. On 6 July XXVII Summer Universiade in Kazan starts. The competitions will become the record in terms of scale and participants number. During 12 days sportsmen out 162 countries will compete for 351 sets of medals in 27 sports: track-and-field athletics, belt wrestling, boat racing, highboard diving, target shooting and others.

Few days already Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been welcoming sportsmen from all over the world. As of 3rd July over 1000 sportsmen departed to Kazan from Domodedovo, the number of foreign guests going to Universiade through Domodedovo will be about 2800 sportsmen.

Domodedovo is a convenient place for foreign tourists' arrival in Russia. Airport route network covers 242 destinations, one third of which are unique for Moscow air hub. It means that it is possible to reach Russia from many cities all over the world only through Domodedovo.

The largest airport of Eastern Europe in terms of passenger traffic, Domodedovo is most important link, connecting world flight network with Russian domestic destinations. The airport flight schedule meets transfer passengers demands, flight change will take here minimum time. The use of transit transfer potential allows airport to serve annually over 28 billion passengers.

Foreign sportsmen highly appreciate convenience of the airport. The meeting of Universiade participants in Domodedovo is organized in full concordance with international standards. Sportsmen pass boarder monitoring in reserved zones, in the terminal foreign guests are accompanied by volunteers from the Organizing Committee of Universiade. Functional zoning of air-terminal complex makes transfer between segments of international and domestic airlines convenient for many sportsmen, who go to competitions with oversized luggage.

Domodedovo Airport Director Igor Borisov noticed: “Domodedovo regularly supports large international sport events. Summer Universiade in Kazan is one of the largest events for us in 2013. In 2013 and 2018 Russia will accommodate even more large-scale world sport events. Domodedovo Airport is ready to support them efficiently. We do everything to provide comfort to the guests and participants of competitions.”

Universiade - is an international multi-sport event, organized biennially - in summer and winter periods - for university athletes, by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Games in Kazan will become the first Universiade in the history of Russia.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport - is the largest one of Russia, in 2012 the airport served 28,2 million people. It joins the category of the largest airports in Europe on the classification of the Airports Council International (ACI) and on results of 2012 became one of three European airports with the highest dynamic development. Since 2009 it is ranked as the best airport in Eastern Europe by Skytrax. Domodedovo is chosen for flights by member airlines of two largest global airline alliances - Star Alliance and oneworld.
