OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow Domodedovo Airport and international company SITA, specialist in air transport communications and information technology (IT), realized project Airport Hub Wireless.

Domodedovo first among Russian airports offers to airlines wireless connection to the global informational network SITA.

Today SITA provides technology data exchange to aviation industry members all over the world. For a few years Moscow Domodedovo Airport had been providing airlines with access to this network by wire interfaces. With Airport Hub Wireless launch, its users get opportunity to exchange data through wi-fi. To pass technology data to the aircraft, airlines do not have to use physical media any more - air crew will receive necessary data (about the weather, passenger number and their food preferences, navigation maps etc.) on any gadget with wi-fi module, for example, digital tablets.

Such decision significantly simplifies the process and reduces airlines telecommunications costs. Domodedovo Airport Director Igor Borisov comments new system launch: “Airport Hub Wireless deployment is great news for our airlines-partners. Many of them already use this service in the international airports, now it is available in Domodedovo too”.

Project realization is a perfect example of win-win decisions: the airport provides partners with advances services, the airlines deploy cost effective technologies, solution provider increases the base of clients-users of innovation services in Russia.

To launch successfully Airport Hub Wireless, SITA updated its network equipment in Domodedovo and the airport provided it with necessary technological support. In June Airport Hub Wireless testing was finished in Domodedovo, and now a number of airport's airlines-partners is switching to wireless technologies.
