OREANDA-NEWS. A new Walmart opened Wednesday, July 10, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store at 2533 Germanna Highway is conveniently located and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will provide Locust Grove residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

“Many of my constituents are looking forward to the opening of this Walmart store,” said Lee Frame, Orange County District 5 Supervisor. “They appreciate being able to shop at a much more convenient location. From the perspective of Orange County, the additional revenue will help our tax base and enable the county to meet its expenses with fewer direct taxes on its citizens. As the first large commercial activity in this area, Walmart, we hope, will attract other businesses to locate in this area.”

One-Stop Shopping Convenience

The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.

Community Giving

The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of USD 8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups.

New Store, New Jobs

The new store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates. Store manager Terralis Gibson began his Walmart career in 1992 as a temporary hourly associate in Manassas.

“The Opening of our Walmart store is the culmination of a collaborative effort to expand opportunity and economic development for Orange County,” said Teel Goodwin, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “Hopefully, this is the spring board to further our goals of creating the potential of Orange.”
