OREANDA-NEWS. SOCAR Georgia Gas launched first section of newly-constructed gas pipeline in Tianeti region of Georgia.
 
Georgian Energy Minister Kakhi Kaladze and SOCAR Energy Georgia CEO Mahir Mammadov attended the opening ceremony. 11-km gas pipeline section will supply gas to 301 potential consumers. 496.4-km gas pipeline has been already constructed in Mtskheta-Tianeti and Shida Kartli regions of Georgia supplying gas to 16500 consumers. The gas network is to be extended 625 km more by the end of the year. It will provide 20872 consumers with natural gas.

Within the framework of the investment program for 2009-2012, extension of gas pipelines reached 3000 km and 166091 consumers have been provided with gas.

SOCAR Georgia Gas was established in August, 2007 within SOCAR Energy Georgia. The company engages in natural gas import, gas sale to social and commercial consumers. According to the agreement signed with the Georgian Ministry of Economic Development, SOCAR Georgia Gas is also constructing gas pipelines and rehabilitating existent pipelines.
