Dr. Pailin Chuchottavorn, President and CEO of PTT Public Company Limited said “I offer my sincerest and deepest apologies for the recent oil spill incident caused by PTT Global Chemical, a PTT subsidiary, which has affected the shoreline from Maptaphut to Prao Bay, Koh Samet Island and nearby areas. The cleanup situation has considerably improved since the incident. Containment booms are being used to control the slick, while an oil skimmer is used to extract the oil where it is taken on to a boat for proper disposal. Ships are also deploying oil spill dispersants - certified safe by the Pollution Control Department - at the spill site. Additionally, an 1,200-meter floating oil boom has been set about 1,000 meters off Koh Samet’s shoreline, while more booms were deployed within the area of Ao Phrao bay when the oil slick washed ashore in order to prevent the leak from returning to the sea. The slick along the shoreline has been collected with oil absorbent material, and rocks have been sprayed and cleaned with high-pressure washers whilst contaminated sand has been dug up onto trucks and will be disposed of properly.

“I would like to thank everyone from the government, private sector to the locals for their support and assistance. The company is always open to any comments from the public, academics or independent experts in order to achieve integrated recovery plans, which will ensure the affected lives and local businesses can return to a normal situation in the shortest possible period of time.” Dr. Pailin Chuchottavorn added.
