The University of Buenos Aires, through the Faculty of Engineering (FIUBA) and Rusatom Overseas JSC, a subsidiary of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, responsible for promotion of Russian nuclear technology on global markets, signed today an agreement to promote continuing education. In this framework, the first national competition of monographs “Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Technology” was presented, and it aim to advanced students and graduates.

The ceremony of signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation was held this morning at the Assembly Hall of the said house of high studies with the presence of distinguished authorities, including: Mr. Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Argentina, Victor V. KORONELLI; Mr. President of the National Atomic Energy Commission, Ms. Norma Boero, representing also the Instituto Balseiro; Mr. Commercial representative of Russia in Argentine Republic, Dr. Sergey Derkach; Mr. Vice-President, Head of public relations department Rusatom Overseas JSC, Ivan Dybov; Mr. Rector of the University of Buenos Aires, Dr. Ruben Hallu; Mr. Deputy Rector of the University of Buenos Aires and Dean of Economic Science Faculty, Dr. Alberto Barbieri; Mr. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires, Dr. Ing Carlos Alberto Rosito; Mr. Secretary of Science and Technology of the University of Buenos Aires, Dr. Hugo Sirkin; Ms. Vice Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Ms. Elena Maceiras, and Mr. Ruben Nicholas of the same institution; Mr. Ing. Oscar Mazzantini from Nucleoelectrica Argentina SA; Mr. General Manager of INVAP, Mr. Carlos Amaya.

Dr. Carlos A Rosito, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires, said: “Nuclear power crosses almost all engineering, thus, start the link with Rosatom, Russian state atomic energy can be a new way to achieve our main goal: to increase the quantity and quality of engineering graduates”.

Rosatom plans to develop cooperation programs involving collaboration in scientific research, exchange of experts, joint seminars and preparation of textbooks. One of the first specific project is the first national competition of papers on “Applications of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes” organized along with FUIBA with support of the Nuclear Safety Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IBRAE RAN). This contest is destined to advanced students and graduates that contemplate nuclear technology applications for industries, medicine, biology and agriculture. Entries will be evaluated by leading international juries of INVAP, the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN), Nuclear Argentina SA (NA-SA SA) and Instituto Balseiro. The top three spots will have the opportunity to travel to Russia and visit Rosatom nuclear facilities.
