OREANDA-NEWS. As part of modernization of the passenger terminal complex in NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport the number of passport control booths will be doubled, from 6 to 12 (both on arrival and on departure).

The federal target program “State Border of the Russian Federation (2012-2020)” provides for the allocation of more than 200 million rubles for upgrading of border checkpoint in Novosibirsk airport by 2016. Currently, the management of Airport Tolmachevo JSC in cooperation with the Federal Agency on State Border Infrastructure Development of the Russian Federation (Rosgranitsa) are exploring the possibility of transferring of works to an earlier date. The state customer on equipping of border checkpoint is FGKU “Rosgranstroy”.

These measures are due to growing passenger traffic, as well as an increase in the number of passenger complaints about the conditions of the passport control. In January-July, 2013 NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport handled 850,548 passengers on international flights, which is 27% higher than the same period last year. At the moment, the complex of measures aimed at optimizing of border control procedures at the airport is carried out. This will allow Border Control Service to become more responsive to congestion of passengers in front of the passport control booths.

When the reconstruction will be done a border checkpoint will fully comply with high growth of passenger traffic at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport and meet the current requirements for passenger service. At the same time, as a result of modernization passenger terminal area of Terminal B will increase from 11,000 to 24,000 square meters and the terminal capacity will grow up to 1,300 passengers per hour. To enhance the level of passenger service it is planned to install a new baggage handling system, two additional air bridges, escalators and elevators for passengers with disabilities. It is also planned to equip business lounge with a room for mothers with children. Construction of the connecting gallery between terminals A and B is also planned.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic airline capacity makes up 1,800 passengers per hour, on international flights - 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. In 2013 it expects to serve over 3.7 million passengers.
