OREANDA-NEWS. The Izhora Pipe Mill (IPM), which specializes in the manufacturing of large-diameter pipes using strips produced by the Cherepovets Steel Mill, both part of the Russian Steel Division of OAO Severstal, has completed its shipments of products for the Central Asia — China (CAC) international gas pipeline.

Between January and August 2013, IPM shipped more than 50,000 tonnes of pipes made from high-strength X80 grade steel. The pipes were 1219mm in diameter with wall thicknesses of 17.5mm and 20.6mm and featured external and internal anti-corrosive coatings.

IPM’s large-diameter pipes are made using self-rolled sheet produced at the 5000 Sheet Rolling Mill at the Cherepovets Steel Mill’s #3 Sheet Shop. The production process, product testing and shipment was all carried out under the supervision of MOODY International, an independent inspection organization.

Sergey Toropov, Head of Severstal’s Russian Steel division, commented: “Our participation in this major project enabled the company to further expand our range of products for pipe industry. We will continue to work on the production of new and innovative types of plates and pipes for Fuel and Energy Complex’s existing and future projects.”

Along with pipe products for CAC, in 2013 IPM produced hot-rolled sheet and large-diameter pipes for major oil and gas projects including the South Stream pipeline and Strength of Siberia pipeline. Severstal also has certification to participate in the tender for the supply of pipes for the offshore section of the South Stream pipeline system.
