OREANDA-NEWS. Read the clarification issued by our Press Management on Monday (Sept. 9) regarding actions carried out by the United States National Security Agency (NSA).

“With regard to reports published in the last few days indicating PETROBRAS has been a target of intelligence actions carried out by the United States National Security Agency - NSA, PETROBRAS announces that the Company has available to it highly qualified and permanently updated systems designed to protect its Internal Computer Network (ICN).

The Company consistently executes all of the procedures that have been identified and acknowledged as the best market practices to protect its internal network and its data and information.

PETROBRAS permanently monitors the traffic in the ICN and data flow between it and the outside environment (the world wide web).

For example, an average of ninety percent of all outside e-mail messages are discarded for presenting potentially damaging features. Such characteristics could have allowed some type of access to PETROBRAS data. It should be noted, however, that the data contained in the Company's files are kept updated on an ongoing basis as the hundreds of projects progress.

PETROBRAS' work force is alerted permanently, by means of internal programs that address the importance of providing the proper classification of the information and how to handle it. Internal information is classified and handled using technological solutions, such as encryption, that are appropriate for the levels of protection associated with the risk of loss to PETROBRAS in the event of a possible leak of information.

Petrobras' information and telecommunications technology is compatible with its Business and Management Plan and with those of other companies of the same size operating in the oil industry around the world.

Attacks from the competition and others have become increasingly complex, requiring permanent and significant investments in data and information protection technology.”
