Ukraine marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Victor Glushkov, a pioneer of computer technology, the author of fundamental works in the field of computer science, mathematics and computing, the founder and head of the unique in the world Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

As Chairman of the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization Volodymyr Semynozhenko noted, thanks to the genius of Academician Glushkov, who lived and worked in Ukraine for more than 25 years, our country, as a part of the USSR, has been a recognized as a leader in the field of cybernetics.

“Name of Victor Glushkov is closely linked with the inception of information technologies in Ukraine. This great scientist entered the domestic history of IT as a developer of digital automata theory, supercomputers creator and founder of the Institute of Cybernetics,” Chairman of the SASII said.

Volodymyr Semynozhenko said that Glushkov created the first in the world personal computer called MIR (Machine for Engineering Calculations). The device was used all the basic principles of the modern personal computer, so that MIR can be named its first prototype. "This machine was demonstrated by the Soviet Union in 1967 at an exhibition in London, where it was bought by IBM," Chairman of the Agency said.

Glushkov main product, the project of all-national economic management of the country, shows about his progressive thinking. Under his guidance automated control systems, which at that time had no analogues in the world, were developed.
