OREANDA-NEWS. Participants of the visiting session of the permanent inter-ministerial working group on ensuring environmental safety at the development stage of the Nizhnekamsk industrial hub headed by Rustem Kamalov, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, visited the TANECO Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex.

Nizhnekamsk is the largest center of the petrochemical and refining industry branches in Russia, therefore the ecological commitment of TATNEFT Company in implementation of the TANECO project in Nizhnekamsk is one of the main priorities.

Advanced world-class technologies are being successfully implemented at the Oil Refining and Petrochemical Plants Complex. The sewage treatment facilities meeting the requirements of high environmental standards were demonstrated to the Ministry delegation and its accompanying journalists of the Republican and urban media.

The main distinguishing feature of the JSC TANECO’s treatment facilities is the principle of a zero wastewater discharge. Technological solutions allow the cleaning process to return the effluent back to the production and carry out the recovery (recovery and return of the raw materials and intermediates to working cycle) of all the sludge and sewage generated in the process.

The professionals got interested in the absence of both primary and secondary clarifier tanks, which is another distinguishing feature of the wastewater treatment process at the Complex. Membrane bioreactors, biological treatment with post- deep treatment in the sorption-carbon filters, as ell as UV disinfection are applied here. These and other design solutions have allowed essential reducing of the sewage treatment facilities area.

Having inspected the current system of the treatment facilities the representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Tatarstan were convinced that the discharge of untreated industrial effluents and the pollutants ingress into water bodies are excluded. The analyses performed at the Complex confirm that the quality of water at the outlet of the treatment facilities is several times cleaner than at the input from the Kama River.

At present JSC TANECO has its own program of environmental safety for 2011 - 2015 period with particular attention paid to the further development of the water saving strategy.
