OREANDA-NEWS. On the 1st of October a meeting of the directors of JSC Lithuanian Railways and the German company DB Schenker Rail AG took place in Vilnius. The main goal of the visit of the foreign delegation was to form cargo flows from the EU to Eastern countries and to develop logistic and others mutually useful and interesting rail transport projects.
 
During the meeting the guests received information on areas of business of JSC Lithuanian Railways, the company’s strategic objectives and projects, routes of container trains, flows and amounts of freight transportation, also projects of the public logistic centres in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
 
Representatives of JSC Lithuanian Railways and DB Schenker Rail AG discussed the possibilities of cooperation for transportation of general cargo flows from Belarus to Russia and Kazakhstan. The delegation of Germany also considered the issue of purchase of locomotives relevant as currently the company is in active development in Eastern Europe – Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, thus, it is especially important to have high-quality locomotives in these regions. The affiliated enterprise of JSC Lithuanian Railways, UAB Vilniaus Lokomotyvш Remonto Depas, manufactures and sells locomotives on the markets of Russia and Estonia.
 
In June of this year, during the international transport and logistics exhibition “Transport Logistic 2013”, JSC Lithuanian Railways and DB SchenkerRail AG have signed the memorandum of agreement, whereby the companies have agreed to promote mutually beneficial partnership related to cargo transportation by rails to Lithuania. In 2011, JSC Lithuanian Railways signed the cooperation agreement with the affiliated enterprise of DB Mobility Logistics, DB Schenker RAil Polska S.A., for transportation of goods through LT-PL state border. Currently, the forwarding agreement is in negotiation.
 
DB Bahn AG Concern owns DB Mobility Logistics company, which is divided into nine business entities related to passenger transportation (DB Bahn), freight transportation, complex logistic solutions (DB Schenker), infrastructure (DB Netze).
 
Revenue of DB Schenker Rail AG amounts to EUR 4.9 billion per year; number of employees makes over 31 thousand. The entire DB Schenker group’s staff makes about 100 thousand employees from 130 countries of the world, the majority of them - in Russia and APAC countries.

Today, revenue of DB Schenker amounts to EUR 20 billion per year. It is the second-large transport and logistics company, which renders complex logistics and forwarding services around the world and occupies about 20% of the world’s transport and logistics market.
