OREANDA-NEWS. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) announced its new daily nonstop flights connecting El Bajio International Airport in the city of Leon with Atlanta and Los Angeles. The new services will start in December 2013. The routes are in the process of government approval and will be operated by Delta Connection partners using a CRJ-900 aircraft with 76 seats, including 12 Business class seats, 12 seats in Economy Comfort and 52 seats in Economy.

“We are pleased to add Leon as the tenth Mexican city we serve, as we continue to strengthen our presence in the country and offer Mexicans the most convenient connections to the United States,” said Carlos E. Hernandez, Delta’s director of sales for Mexico. “The Bajio region is experiencing significant development and growth from investments made for the automotive and manufacturing industries; we are supporting this growth by offering business travelers direct flights and access to the major U.S. cities via Atlanta and to Asian destinations through our gateway in Los Angeles.”

By this winter, Delta and its partners, including Virgin Australia Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic will operate more than 170 peak-day departures to 59 nonstop destinations, including Amsterdam, London-Heathrow, Paris, Sydney and Tokyo, from Los Angeles.

Delta continues to invest in enhancing the customer experience, both in flight and on the ground. Delta’s Terminal 5 at LAX is in the midst of a USD  229 million enhancement. The project will double the size of the ticketing lobby and self-service kiosks, open an exclusive, separate Sky Priority lobby and checkpoint, and include renovations to the Delta Sky Club and new baggage carousels. The project has already begun and is scheduled to be completed in several phases with full completion in 2015.

Through Delta's Atlanta hub, travelers from the city of Leon can connect to flights taking less than 2.5 hours to any destination within the U.S., as well as access to more than 945 (using a January schedule) daily flights to 206 destinations that Delta operates, including nonstop service to 63 international destinations. Delta has also made a major investment at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a new international terminal, which opened in spring 2012 and features full signage in Spanish through the airport.

“We listen to the market demand and respond accordingly. Through Los Angeles we offer customers access to markets in the Western coast like Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Las Vegas and San Jose, California,” added Hernandez.  “Providing connectivity options is part of our diligent work to become the best U.S. airline in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
