OREANDA-NEWS. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company paid out insurance indemnity to the family of hydroelectric power plant worker who died due to an accident at the hazardous facility, with the payment amounting to RUB 2 million 25 thousand.

The loss was incurred as a result of the explosion at the crest of the dam during crane girder painting works, caused by inflammation of paint-and-varnish mixture vapors inside the structure. Two workers carrying out the works fell from a 120 meters and died, with another worker injured.

After all necessary assessments had been completed, the event was considered to be insured against. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company paid out to the family of one of the deceased victims insurance indemnity in the amount of RUB 2 million 25 thousand which is the maximum amount of indemnity for a loss inflicted to life and health of the hazardous facility accident victim (pursuant to the Federal Law No. 225 dated 07/27/2010). The families of other victims are now collecting all necessary documents to qualify for an insurance indemnity.

Obligation of hazardous facility owners to insure their third-party liability is regulated by the Federal Law (No.225 dated 7/27/2010). New rules for compulsory hazardous facility insurance are effective as of January 1, 2012 for commercial enterprises and January 1, 2013 for governmental organizations.

A member of the National Association of Liability Insurers, Ingosstrakh Insurance Company has a 14-year's experience of civil liability insurance of organizations operating hazardous production facilities in accordance with the existing legislation. During the first year since the Federal Law No.225 dated 7/27/2010 has come into force Ingosstrakh Insurance Company insured over 17 thousand hazardous facilities, providing policy holders with reliable protection against contingent expenses in case of a production site accident.
