OREANDA-NEWS. Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP), as part of the FESCO Transportation Group, transhipped a record number of containers in the history of their activities according to the results of November 2013. 46,463 TEU were processed. The record also became the largest monthly volume of container transhipment among ports of the Far East of Russia.

A steady pace of growth of container handling in VMTP has been noted since the beginning of the 2nd quarter of 2013. So, for July - November 2013, the port handled 213,076 TEU, which is 13% more than in the preceding five months of this year.

The growth seen in the volumes of containerized cargo is mainly related to the acquisition of new clients from Southeast Asia and the growth in import cargo traffic. VMTP also continues to optimize business processes and modernize the infrastructure of the port complex.

The containers are a priority form of cargo for VMTP within the strategy of the FESCO Group. According to the results of the first 11 months of 2013, the share of goods transported in containers amounted to 63% of the total cargo turnover of the port, which is 11 percentage points more compared to same period last year.
