OREANDA-NEWS. January 09, 2014. The Registru State Entreprise (Centre for State Information Resources) released the first vehicle registration plates meeting the European standards. They will cost by 50 lei less.

The new plates have the same layout, but contain additional elements for protection.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Pavel Filip has said that the main purpose of manufacturing the new registration plates was to prevent their counterfeiting. "So far, the plates have been produced by a private company and their production process could not be monitored. Thus, their uniqueness could not be guaranteed", said Filip.

The previously manufactured and issued plates remain valid and may be changed at the will of the vehicle owner.

The cost of a new registration plate is 340 lei. About 80,000 vehicle registration numbers are demanded yearly.
