OREANDA-NEWS. “Lietuvos energijos gamyba” has received a certificate confirming the compliance of the Company's environmental management system with the ISO 14001:2004 international standard. The certificate, which is acknowledged around the world, proves the Company's adherence to key requirements for identifying, monitoring, managing and improving the aspects of environmental protection.

The ISO 14001:2004 standard is a component of the ISO 14000 international environmental management standards. The auditors of the international classification and certification society Det Norske Veritas performed an extensive accreditation audit of “Lietuvos energijos gamyba”. The certificate is valid until the end of 2016.

The certificate is valid for the products made and services provided by “Lietuvos energijos gamyba” controlled power plants in Elektrenai, Kruonis and Kaunas. The certificate proves that the following operations of the power plants comply with the strict international environmental management requirements: electricity and heat generation, the operation of thermal and electrical units and turbines, natural gas units, the operation of petroleum and petroleum products equipment at the Lithuanian Power Plant in Elektrenai, electricity generation, supply, the operation of electrical units and capacity reserve at the Kruonis Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant, electricity generation, supply and the operation of electrical units at the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power.

The international practice shows that the implementation of the environmental management system helps to cut down operational costs, reduce the number of accidents causing environmental damage and facilitate the obtaining of various permits and certificates.
