OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2014. This was reported by Sudzucker Moldova, noting that due to the high quality of raw materials, reduction of production losses and increase in the energy efficiency at Sudzucker Moldova factories, relatively low cost of sugar has provided competitiveness not only at the EU market, where sugar prices are high, but also at the markets of Russia and Belarus.

Increase of the competitiveness of Moldovan sugar also contributed to the reduction of VAT on this product up to 8%. Sudzucker Moldova notes that sugar beet became the most profitable field crop in Moldova in agricultural season-2013 due to its high productivity and high selling price exceeding 700 lei per ton.

Taking into account maximum level of production costs (up to 20 thousand lei/ha), gross income of agricultural enterprises from 1 ha of sugar beet plantations amounted to about 7-8 thousand lei.
