OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2014. The World Health Organization (WHO) opens its office center in Almaty, Kazakh Healthcare Minister Salidat Kairbekova announced.

"Geographically remote office center of the World Health Organization, the one that will be engaged exactly in primary health care is to support the development of primary health care in Almaty. There will be the best experts from around the world," S. Kairbekova said at a briefing in CCS.

According to her, as for domestic medicine opening of WHO representative in Kazakhstan will provide a great support for those projects that are implemented by the Healthcare Ministry of Kazakhstan in the field of primary health care. "Because we will be guided by the best models of primary health care, the best practices that exist in international practice," the Minister added.
There is a severe shortage of donor organs in Kazakhstan, she informed. "The death of one person, paradoxically as it is, may be life saving for five patients, if to use his organs. Therefore, we would like that Kazakhstani people became active donors for posthumous transfer of their loved ones' organs," S. Kairbekova said.

According to her, today the health sector of Kazakhstan is ready for transplantation and organ transplants surgeries. However, there still remains an urgent problem of lack of donors.
Overall in 2013, as reported by the Ministry of Healthcare, 177 organ transplants (130 kidney and 19 liver transplants) were conducted.
