OREANDA-NEWS. Miners of Degassing and Methane Utilization Administration (UDiUM) set up a new world record in drilling degassing holes using a VLD 1000À rig.

On February 10, 2014, employees of underground drilling section No. 3 run by UDiUM at S. M. Kirov Colliery used a VLD 1000A directional drill rig (Australia) to drill 504 m in a day. It is a new world record. The previous record confirmed by the machinery manufacturer was set up by the same team in early December 2013. Then the miners drilled 456 m in a day.

Yevgeny Yutyayev, Director General, SUEK-Kuzbass congratulated the mine with this labour victory, “The world level result has been achieved in complex mining and geological conditions while drilling the rock with high gas release. This is yet another proof of the competence and commitment of the Administration miners effectively using the state-of-the-art drilling equipment.”

The VLD 1000À rig was purchased in 2011 and has been used at S. M. Kirov Colliery for directional drilling of degassing holes to achieve effective integrated degassing. In 2013, the rig drilled 30,660 m of boreholes.
