OREANDA-NEWS. The first shipment of ore processed at the new Conceicao Itabiritos Treatment Plant in Minas Gerais was a milestone moment, closing out 2013 in grand style. The 26 railway cars were loaded with some 2,400 metric tons of ore, paving the way for the new plant's continued production, which is currently in the ramp-up phase. The material was transported to the Tubarao Pelletizing Plant in Espirito Santo for processing.

Integration between the Project, Operations and Maintenance areas has been fundamental for the results achieved. The teams have been working in close cooperation since the project began to ensure the transition to the operational area proceeded in the best possible manner.

The Conceicao Itabiritos Project consists of the construction of a new ore treatment plant in Itabira, Minas Gerais, to process compact itabirite. The new plant will be capable of processing 12 million metric tons of iron ore per annum. The project, which began in 2010, is one of three intended to contribute to maintaining production capacity and extending the lifespans of the activities at the Itabira Complex. In all, more than 20,000 people have been involved in the projects.
