OREANDA-NEWS. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW Open Joint Stock Company, based in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, part of United Metallurgical Company, OMK Closed Joint Stock Company) has confirmed the compliance of its 812.8 mm diameter pipes with 36.5 mm thick walls to the requirements of Gazprom OJSC and to the technical conditions of the Russkaya compressor station construction project in the Krasnodar Region (a part of the South Stream gas pipeline).

The hydraulic tests of the VSW pipes intended for the gas pipeline's linear sections (with an operating pressure of up to 290 atmospheres) were held at the Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg LLC testing grounds in Kopeisk (in the Chelyabinsk Region) at the end of 2013. During the testing, the VSW-produced pipes, which have an artificially inflicted defect (cut) on the wall, resisted a pressure of around 400 atmospheres. This is almost 1.5 times bigger than the operating pressure provided by the Russkaya compressor station project.

“This positive conclusion on the company's product quality has given us the right to take part in the tender of delivering large diameter pipes for sites as impressive as the Russkaya compressor station,” Sergey Filippov, VSW Managing Director, commented on the test results.

Vyksa Steel Works started mastering the rolled stock and pipe production technologies required by the Russkaya compressor station specifications in the summer of 2013. In accordance with the acceptance tests program, VSW staff successfully completed an extended range of mechanical tests for the specified pipes, jointly and under the supervision of GazpromVNIIGAZ LLC.
