OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2014. Lady of the Camellias, choreographer John Neumeier’s adaptation of Alexandre Dumas fils' novel La Dame aux Camelias, will premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre this month, supported by VTB Bank. The ballet, set to the music of Frederic Chopin, is being shown in Russia for the first time.

Lady of the Camellias was adapted for the Stuttgart Ballet in 1978. Three years later, Neumeier produced a new version for the Hamburg Ballet. Since then Lady of the Camellias has been a hit for many dance companies around the world. Bolshoi prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova will appear in the Russian premiere alongside Edvin Revazov, a soloist from the Hamburg Ballet.

The production uses three sets of soloists and corps-de-ballet, as well as 326 costumes created especially for the show. German stage designer Jurgen Rose created not only the costumes, but also original sets of jewelry. Exclusive photo collections and articles on preparations for the show and its unique stage sets, as well as interviews with the principal dancers can be found on the VTBRussia.ru website.
