OREANDA-NEWS. Science and Engineering Board (SEB) that focused on creation of a power plant for an aircraft with all-electric equipment took place at OJSC "Aviadvigatel".

The decision of the expert board of FSUE "Central Institute of Aerohydrodynamics" ("TSAGI") to recommend the project of the "Complex program on creation of an all-electric aircraft" (AEA) for approval to the Ministry of Indusrty and Trade of Russia was the reason for the event. This program is rated for the period from 2014 to 2022. Perm design bureau in cooperation with other enterprises is to perform the modernization of the PS-90A engine and its systems.
To date one of strategic directions of the world aviation development is the conversion to the concept of an aircraft with all-electric equipment (set name — "all-electric aircraft" or AEA), which means an aircraft with an integrated centralized power supply system meeting all the energy demands of an aircraft.
Representatives of OJSC "Tupolev", FSUE "Central Institute of Aviation Motors" (TSIAM), OJSC "UEC", OJSC SPA "Saturn", OJSC "UMPO" — united designed bureau named after A. Lyulka, OJSC "Electroprivod", Omsk machine-building design bureau, OJSC "Molniya", OJSC "Star", OJSC "Aviation equipment", CJSC "Diakont" took part in the SEB.
The participants of the SEB discussed the condition and the prospects of creation of a new power plant for AEA, directions and technologies of electrification of a power plant, including advanced developments in the field of ACS and electromechanical drives.
"When developing an experimental engine for AEA based on the PS-90A we should use all the experience gathered by us during creation of PD-14 engine. We must apply technologies — from engineering to production — competitive in the first quarter of the XXIst century" — underlined Alexander Inozemtsev, the general designer of OJSC "Aviadvigatel".
For carrying out flight tests of the new equipment it is supposed to create a flying laboratory based on the Tu-214 aircraft (No. 64501) with its further development to upgraded Tu-214E.
In total it is planned to involve more than 100 enterprises of aviation, electronic and electrical industries in the realization of the AEA program, and the number of leading academic institutes of the Russian Science Academy as well.
