OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2014. Igor Nikolayev, the FBK Institute of Strategic Analysis director, answered the questions of the visitors to the Finam.ru portal within the framework of the online conference of “The Future of Russian Economy: a slow dive into recession or a deep crisis?”.

How can the sanctions of the West affect the economy of Russia? Should more serious measures be expected? How can the government and monetary authorities reverse the negative trend? What can be done to stir the economic growth and business activities in the nearest future and what should be done in the long-range outlook?

Answering the questions of participants in the online conference Igor Nikolayev noted, in particular, that the most realistic scenario of developments in the Russian economy was a slow dive into recession aggravated with geopolitical factors. The FBK expert thinks that the international sanctions will not remain on the same level but intensify. “The most severe sanction is the EU separation from the energy dependence of Russia, which will not happen overnight, not even in the current year but in some later periods”, Igor Nikolayev reckons.
