OREANDA-NEWS. Denver International Airport set a record in March for the total number of international passengers in one month, as overall passenger traffic also continued to climb in 2014.

The number of passengers traveling on international flights increased from 190,720 flyers in March 2013, to 229,860 flyers in March 2014 - an increase of 21 percent and the largest number of international travelers at DIA in any single month. International passenger counts have continued to show steady growth at DIA, as overall international traffic increased 23 percent through the first three months of 2014 compared to the same time in 2013.

Overall passenger traffic at DIA also continued to show growth in March, with 4,544,364 passengers using the airport in March 2014. That's an increase of 2 percent over the 4,456,431 passengers in March 2013, and the second-highest number of passengers of any March in the airport's history.

Through the end of March, DIA has seen 12,380,937 passengers so far this year, an increase of 1.7 percent over the 12,178,311 passengers during the same time last year.

“In March 2014, all three of our largest partners, United, Southwest and Frontier, showed an increase in passengers over March of 2013,” said Kim Day, Denver Manager of Aviation. “The continued strong growth in international passengers, coupled with seasonally strong domestic demand helped Denver International Airport end the first quarter strong, with total passenger traffic at the airport up 1.7 percent year to date.”

Additionally, mail, freight and express cargo operations saw a 4.4-percent decrease in March compared to the previous year. To date, 119,260,059 pounds of cargo have been handled at DIA in 2014, down from 126,924,850 pounds of cargo handled during the same time in 2013.
