OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Steel's new Coke Oven Battery #11 was commissioned today by Mr Cyrus P. Mistry, Tata Group Chairman at Jamshedpur. With the commissioning of the Coke Oven Battery #11, the Company will be self-sufficient in coke requirement for stable operation of Jamshedpur Steel works.

Built at a production capacity of 0.7 million tonnes per annum, the Coke Oven Battery #11 operates with 88 ovens with stamp charge technology and is the largest coke oven complex at the Jamshedpur works. The state-of-the-art facility meets all environmental norms and consists of various features to take care of the plant and human safety.

Inaugurating the coke oven battery # 11, Mr Cyrus P Mistry, Tata Group Chairman congratulated and thanked the entire Tata Steel team, partners, suppliers and contractors and said, 'The commissioning of the Coke Oven Battery # 11, also the last milestone project in the completion of the 3 MnTPA expansion at Jamshedpur Steel Works, is indeed a proud moment for all of us. The project will bring about commercially significant difference to the operations at the Company.' Mr Misty while also emphasizing on the aspect of safety said 'It is an area where we need to improve and endeavour to break set records in all future projects.'

On the occasion, Mr TV Narendran, MD Tata Steel, India and SEA said, 'It was a challenging project and I take this opportunity to compliment all the members for the successful completion. We have a strong track record of successful implementation of large and complex projects across the steel sector.' He further added, 'We are committed to deliver the best to our customers and the commissioning of the Coke Oven Battery # 11 along with our efforts at the Kalinganagar Plant will reinforce our leadership position in the space.'

The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr Anand Sen, President (TQM & Steel Business), Mr P N Singh, President, Tata Workers' Union and other senior functionaries of the Company.

Mr PN Singh, President, Tata Workers' Union appreciated the commendable effort of Tata Steel in achieving the milestone. Mr Singh also thanked everyone associated with the project for completing the project safely despite the difficulties faced due to various site constraints.
