OREANDA-NEWS. More than 1.5 million passengers chose Moscow Domodedovo Airport for traveling during May holidays, which is 6.8% more than in 2013.

In 2014, the passenger traffic already started to increase on April 25 and remained at this level until May 12. International routes remain among the most popular ones: during the period of May holidays, about 900,000 passengers took the opportunity to go on holiday abroad through Moscow Domodedovo Airport.

As we approach the May holidays, Moscow Domodedovo Airport partner-carriers increased the frequency of flights and opened new destinations. Most passengers preferred to spend the long weekend in one of the most picturesque places of the Mediterranean - Antalya: the jewel in the crown of the Turkish Riviera topped the list of popular destinations. The Red Sea coast also attracted a large number of travelers, Hurghada ranked second in the list of the most popular destinations. The third place goes to the northern capital of Russia: nearly sixty thousand people preferred to go to St Petersburg flying there with Moscow Domodedovo Airport partner companies. During May holidays, over 600,000 passengers of the air hub traveled across the country through Moscow Domodedovo Airport: Krasnodar, Simferopol, Sochi and Yekaterinburg are among the most interesting cities for the travelers.

Many people tend to use their weekends to spend them with their near and dear. But, there are passengers, for whom a flight during this period is of particular importance: on Victory Day, World War II veterans go to meet their comrades-in-arms. The Moscow Domodedovo Airport staff prepared a special welcome for the guests of honor, who fought for the freedom of our country. During holidays, veterans were provided with the airport VIP-lounge services at no charge where they were offered lunch at the restaurant. On Victory Day, a special atmosphere was created for the passengers: the Victory Day parade was broadcast live on the monitors installed in all zones of the passenger terminal, in the territory of the landside of the airport there was broadcast themed visuals in memory of those who fought in the war and gave their lives performing combat tasks. Travelers could take part in the tenth milestone campaign “St. George Ribbon” which was held in the public area of the passenger terminal as a sign of gratitude and appreciation to the veterans of the Great War. On May 09, more than 80,000 people used the services of Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
