OREANDA-NEWS. On May, 21 Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen has held a meeting with representatives of BioMar AS company during which opportunities of implementation of investment project of constructing a fish feed manufacturing enterprise in the republic were discussed.

The BioMar group is one of the leading suppliers of high performance fish feed to the aquaculture industry. Worldwide the BioMar Group supplies feed to around 60 countries. BioMar is organised with a group function and three regions. The group headquarters is located in Aarhus, Denmark.

As Alexander Khudilainen observed, fish industry is one of the strategics spheres of development of the region.

- Of all trout farmed in Russia 70 percent is produced in Karelia. More than 23,000 tons of fish was farmed in the republic last year, a farm hatching fry fish from eggs with the capacity of 12,5 fish a year million was launched. The second farm will open this year. The fisheries industry including fish breeding enterprises rearing both commodity fish and fry fish, as well as enterprises processing fish and selling finished goods is developing successfully in the republic, - Head of Karelia has told.

The only problem is that fish farms have to purchase feed in other regions. Annual consumption makes more than 20 thousand tons. By 2020 the republic plans to farm up to 30-32 thousand tons of fish that consequently would require more fish feed.

- Thus, we're interested in implementation of fish feed manufacturing investment project in Karelia. We're open for discussion and ready for cooperation. In case the decision on construction is made the regional authorities will promote solution of any problems and implementation of the project, - Alexander Khudilainen addressed to his guests.

Besides, the neighbouring Murmansk, Leningrad, Vologda and Arkhangelsk regions engaged in fish farming may be interested in purchasing high performance fish feed.

According to representatives of BioMar AS, the quality of fish feed to be manufactured in Karelia should be no less than the company's products all over the world. They have been developed using state-of-the-art production facilities and are environmentally friendly.

The company will be offered investment manufacturing locations in regions of the republic for consideration. They will be also informed about all kinds of support rendered to investors. Upon careful consideration BioMar AS will determine conclusively.
