OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2014. OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel and OJSC Rossety signed an agreement on cooperation in the measures on higher reliability of Taymir power system functioning with further connection to the Unified national (pan-Russian) power grids.

The document was signed by the Companies’ CEOs Vladimir Potanin and Oleg Budargin at the Saint Petersburg international economic forum.

In line with the Agreement, OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel and OJSC Rossety shall cooperate in preparing a Feasibility Study (FS) for the project of reliability guarantees of Taymir power system providing its eventual connection to the Unified national (pan-Russian) power grids.

Corresponding plans on the project implementation will be taken in consideration at working out schedules and programs of the development of Unified power system of Russia and schedules and programs of electric power development of Krasnoyarsk region. The project is to be financed at the expense of mobilized investors in compliance with the made-up FS.

Appraising the signed agreement, Vladimir Potanin, CEO of Norilsk Nickel said that the agreement signed today shall guarantee power resources to Taymir and Norilsk industrial region that accommodates the Polar Division of Norilsk Nickel – fundamental asset of the Company’s development strategy. Besides, Taymir has tremendous investment potential, since a considerable part of promising territories of the peninsula has not yet been explored. The issues of infrastructure development are traditionally key factors for the companies operating in the region. Execution of plans on connecting Taymir to the unified power system will result in higher competitiveness and investment attractiveness of Taymir peninsula, in stable and favorable conditions for mobilization of investments into the construction of electric power enterprises and in guarantees for reliable and stable power supply to basic operations of the Company’s Polar Division for long-term perspectives.
