OREANDA-NEWS.  July 25, 2014. “Reaching the European market, Moldovan products will have access all over the world”, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection Tonio Borg has said during a meeting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.

The officials discussed the EU decision to double, this autumn, import quotas for certain categories of Moldovan fruits and vegetables, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The sides approached implementation of a roadmap in order to increase the quality of Moldovan products for being exported to the EU market. The officials also analyzed the need to set up an emerging fund for local producers.

Leanca said that the official’s visit was decisive for Moldova. He assured the official that the reforms would continue in Moldova and would be taken all measures necessary for the Moldovan products to be on the shelves in the EU. “Moldovan products’ accession to the European market means increasing interest of investors in Moldovan agriculture”, he said.

For his part, Tonio Borg said that Moldovan products’ perspective would overcome the geographical limits of the EU, after applying European standards.

“European standards in food are very high. Moldovan products will have access all over the world, after they reach the European market. It will be a signal to all countries around the world”, the official noted. He visited a sausage factory in the suburbs of Chisinau. The commissioner said it met all EU requirements.

Leanca launched a request on doubling quotas for Moldovan vegetables and fruits on the EU market this spring. The accession prospects of Moldovan sausage and chicken eggs on European market are to be analyzed, after the abolition of quotas for Moldovan wine and doubling rates for fruits and vegetables.
